Iraq: Better or Worse? Empty
PostSubject: Iraq: Better or Worse?   Iraq: Better or Worse? EmptyFri Sep 10, 2010 7:43 pm

With combat operations ending In Iraq, and the remaining troops main duty being to train and supervise the Iraqi Security Forces, I figured I'd see what everyone's opinion on what kind of job we did there.

Good:

Ousted Saddam Hussein, established an elected government (though a possibly corrupt one at that). I'm not going into specifics here about the economy, religion, etc. but feel free to do so.

Bad:

I need to be delicate about how I word this. The fact is that under Saddam, there were not bombs going off in Baghdad every day, killing innocents. I am in no way saying that he was a malevolent, good leader I am simply stating he kept order, although with extremely brutal methods.

Due to the invasion of a predominantly Islamic country, feelings of resentment toward the West by Arabs have increased dramtically, as well as terrorist recruitment.

My opinion:

Despite being in the third grade (I believe) when the US invaded Iraq, I heavily disagreed with it. I felt that America simply wanted to blow shit up in response to 9/11 (which is also justified) however they should stuck with Afghanistan. In my opinion, the bulk of NATO forces are now leaving a country without a proper government, or competent security forces.

When you make an extremely important decision such as completely overthrowing a government and replacing it with a new one, you have to commit to that decision. Despite Iraq's newest elections taking place a long time ago, the new members of its legislature have yet to take office due to a combination of fear due to the rampant insurgency, and incompetence on both Iraq, and America's end.

Simple, we didn't belong.

We had a good idea AFTER we went in.

It was partially done to distract we HADN'T killed Osama.

In short, its good and bad. Current situation isn't really a whole lot better since all the countries neighbors are corrupt nations as well.

Doesn't help that Iran is extremely close to being capable of developing nuclear weapons.

I see a lot of gamma radiation in Israel's future.
